News from Breckland - Free music workshops launched across Breckland

Celebrated musicians Joe Mace and Carl Cole, have announced a new series of music workshops for the Silver Social arts programme. They have previously developed workshops and performed for Creative Arts East, Snape Maltings, Community Music East, The Garage and Aldeburgh Music.

“The workshops are free to and will involve singing, drumming, exploring unusual instruments, writing songs and playing music influenced by different cultures, all with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment,” commented a Silver Social spokesperson. “No prior musical experience is necessary; musicians and non-musicians alike are welcome. The sessions are about ‘playing’ with music, having fun and meeting new people, all fuelled with tea and cake!”

The free workshops start on 12 November at Dereham Meeting Point on St Withburga Lane (10am–11.30am), followed that afternoon from 2 pm at Harling Old School Hall. The show will also be coming to Watton Christian Community Centre (13 November, 2–3.30pm), Attleborough Methodist Church (14 November, 10am) and Swaffham Community Centre (14 November, from 2pm).

The workshops are part of the Silver Social Programme, an exciting programme of daytime arts events in the heart of Norfolk, promoting engagement and participation among older residents in rural communities. Managed by Breckland Council and with funding from the National Lottery Arts Council, Silver Social brings 'something a little different' to daily life in rural Breckland - in the form of creative workshops and live performances.
